Hotel Capellán de Getsemaní
The design behind this thirty-room boutique hotel was to return to the roots of Cartagena, capturing the city's essence in a contemporary way. Wicker, plantain leaves, linen, and other natural materials represent Colombia's coastal culture, combined with bronze to introduce modern elegance.
Guests should feel at home from the moment they enter, and the lobby is designed to welcome and impress. A seating area featuring rattan-covered Louis XV chairs, a design exclusive to the hotel, and matching rattan coffee tables invites guests in, while two check-in desks allow for casual interaction between guests and staff. From the façade through the interior, motifs and colors carry through to create a complete, considered ambience.

Design Notes
Most of the hotel's furniture was custom-designed and produced for each space. Guest rooms are divided into five categories, each with its own style. The hotel's "salon" is designed for quiet reading, coffee or tea, or a game of backgammon on its custom board table. Above it hangs a classic painting of a sailboat at sea, representing Cartagena's maritime culture; its palette of greens, blues, nudes, and bronze sets the color scheme for the room.
The pool area, pool bar, and rooftop terrace take a more traditional turn with French-style furniture, scalloped umbrellas, and native Colombian bougainvillea vines found throughout the city. The pool bar's green granite countertops reappear in the restaurant, tying the two spaces together in a seafoam-inspired color story. Oxidized iron handrails, finished in a trellis motif originally brought to Cartagena by Middle Eastern influences, repeat in the bathroom and spa tiles, where walls are covered in white Carrara marble.
Design Notes
The restaurant was designed to capture the color and folklore of the city. Colorful Contardi light fixtures lend it a Caribbean feel, alongside cement floor tiles and a cement bar, both nods to Cartagena's architecture. Dining chairs with open, circular backs bring a sense of airiness, while antique mirrors add depth and a light green ceiling reinforces the hotel's fresh, oceanic theme.
